April may be the cruelest month, but March is just the…weirdest. No longer winter but not quite spring (here in western Colorado, we’re at 29 F overnight and 53 F during the day), it’s also generally when Lent is dying down, making way for the burst of Easter color and the prospect of Easter lamb. (Why do we eat lamb on Easter Sunday? Wasn’t Jesus the Lamb of God? Is it like Holy Communion, where you consume the Body of Christ? Why is there cannibalism in the catechism? These are the kind of questions that got me in trouble in Catholic School.)
Anyway, so back to my original subject: March is a very weird month. A time of betrayal, sacrifice, death, with just a hint of resurrection around the corner.
God, what a weird time to usher in the spring.
And on that happy note:
Prestige Hong Kong, a luxury mag based out of the former British colony now Chinese bitch territory, has a very lengthy, interesting interview with Chanel’s bad boy-in-residence, Karl Lagerfeld. Ah, doncha just love Karl, he of the George Washington hair and Victorian lace collars? Critics may decry what he’s done with the venerable House of Chanel’s iconic brand, but he’s nothing if not daring and astoundingly creative.
On the other side of the pond, I found a gorgeously photographed blog based in France and maintained by an antiques expert called Le petit cabinet des curiosites. What attracted me initially to the blog were the writer’s photographs of doors doors doors. I love me my doors and have photographed more than my share of them — Singapore has some gorgeous examples of 19th- and early-twentieth century doors fronting the facades of Peranakan homes (Straits Chinese who migrated from mainland China to settle on the Malay Peninsula), many in bright, arresting colors. Anyway, check out the site if you’re in to French antiques, fabrics, art, statuaries, furniture, home design, etc. The writer even has a site on eBay!
You may have heard this group on NPR during a recent Weekend Edition feature, but if you haven’t, you have to listen to their hit dance single, titled (appropriately enough) D.A.N.C.E. Justice is composed of two former French graphic designers who got together in the great tradition of bands everywhere: they wanted a good excuse to make music. Anyway, D.A.N.C.E. is a catchy little ditty complete with a London boys’ chorus singing along with the leads. Apparently, because their lack of proficiency in English, they wrote the lyrics entirely out of Michael Jackson song titles. Now how can you not listen to a song like that?
And lastly, following up on my post yesterday about the Jovovich-Hawk collection at Target, I found a really interesting (if somewhat long) article about the duo in a recent issue Paper Magazine. Fascinating reading about the creative process and the paths these two very different people took to getting to where they are now.

There’s something about Mila. I can’t take my eyes off her. She’s cool. Speaking of cool. I just saw our favourite girl Tina Key on the cover of Vanity Fair.
Proof positive that religion is born of the wacky. Eat me, drink me? Whatever you say, Alice.
They were certainly B-movies in every sense of the word, but Mila kicked a bit o’ the ass in the Resident Evil flicks. Zombies!
That’s the worst weather and that’s what it is here, as well. Too warm for a winter jacket at 7am, too cold to not wear one at 5pm.
Hey, there’s some neat stuff on that photography blog!
Bonjour Marjorie , and thank you for writing about me and putting my blog’s link ..I’m happy you like my blog and you share it
It’s funny – I have a tendency to forget about the religious part of this season. I’m so consumed by spring and planting and looking forward to eating outside and seeing everything bloom and and and….! When I think of spring and Easter, it’s very much about rebirth and fertility and blooming, rather than a specific religion, if that makes sense.
Colleen hates the word “musings,” by the way. I thought I’d let you know. I think I’ll have to take the word “rant” off the subtitle of And So Forth too! She made me feel vocabulary-deprived because I use it…
All in good fun!
This is why I like you Betty, you know the sarcsm so well! *LOL*
function o’, I was actually secretly thrilled to see Marjorie, who is such a great writer, use the word “musings.” It made me feel better about my “rants.”
Ooo, Colleen. Must. Get. Vanity. Fair.
Randal, glad to hear that you found some good photos on the blog! It reminds me that I need to break out the camera more often and spice up this site.
I have yet to see Resident Evil, but I did see that one with Bruce Willis…uhm….The Fifth Element! Gotta love me my Luc Besson.
Dear Melanie, bonjour and you’re most welcome!
AS, well, I intended to go to Mass yesterday, but ended up hiking at Colorado National Monument (10 minutes away from our door) instead with B. I think of it as another great way to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, enjoying the great outdoors that he gave us.
Betty, I know! I’m too lazy to change it, though. Well, maybe I will…if I can think of something else in the meantime. Otherwise, Musings it stays, Colleen!
Salut,
Marjorie
