"Spring is Here; It’s Time to Fall in Love!"

by Marjorie on March 27, 2008

Oh my God. You have to see this trailer, if not the film itself. Ninetysomething actress and model Mimi Weddell is the subject of a new documentary called Hats Off, and what a film it is. Watch her gestures, the way she moves, how she smiles, how animated her entire body is, no matter what she’s doing. Watch how she puts on her gloves — even her eyes and mouth are involved in the movement. And oh, the photos and photo shoots! Like the one where she’s standing on a street corner, dressed in haute couture, her shoulders protected by a massive fur coat, her face an expressionist painting of haughty glamour, her fingers wrapped around a cigarette…and her mouth snapping chewing gum. Classic.

The woman has been in ads for Nike and Louis Vuitton, for God’s sake.

In another life she was probably French. But in this one, she’s very proudly American. And wow, my new role model for life.

OMG I’m in love. She’s fantastic; she’s gorgeous. She’s my new idol! If I can’t find this movie, I’m just gonna have to watch the trailer over and over. I do remember her from that pastel ad. Oh, I’m positive she was French in her last incarnation. Thanks so much for that!

Dear Carlene, merci for your comment! Isn’t she amazing? I’m going to have to track down that DVD (not available yet, but hopefully soon). I love that she doesn’t give a s*** about what people think, that she is, above all, herself, and no one else. It’s a pity that we women don’t learn that until we’re well into old age, but Mimi’s an excellent role model.

I remember her from The Purple Rose of Cairo but I’m going to track down the ad with her in the black evening dress and the bubble gum. I can’t stop watching that scene — that’s so me!

Salut,
Marjorie
