ook, In Search of Hope, should be required reading for all would-be activists and anyone who cares about the world. Even if you don’t think that you as an individual could possibly have an effect on the rampant injustices and cruelty that cause so much human suffering, I think that you might just change your mind once you’ve read these stories of some very remarkable women.
I love this book so much, I think everyone should have it and read it over and over for inspiration, but if you want to win a free copy for yourself, here’s your chance.
The rules, as always, are simple:
- Only one (1) entry per person.
- You must be a resident of the United States to enter, or at least have a U.S. address to which I can send the book. My apologies to my overseas readers, but it cuts down on my shipping costs and customs issues!
- Entries must be received no later than 5:00 pm Central Time on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009. Entries received after that time will be disqualified.
- To enter, simply submit a comment on this post with the name of your personal hero/heroine, and tell us why they inspire you. Is it Aung San Suu Kyi? Nelson Mandela? Hillary Clinton? Barack Obama? Rush Limbaugh? Jon Stewart? Captain Sullenberger, aka Captain Sully? Esther Dyson? Or maybe it’s your mom, dad, big sister, Big Brother, or college mentor. Whoever your personal hero may be, here’s your opportunity to publicly acknowledge them! You must include both the name of your personal hero/heroine and why you chose them. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
- Entries must include some kind of contact information, either an email address or a link to a Web site that has your email address. If I can’t figure out how to contact you, your entry will be disqualified.
- The winner will be chosen at random from all qualified entries received and announced no later than Thursday morning at 9:00 am Central Time. I’ll be using the handy-dandy Random Sequence Generator to determine the winner.
- Winner will be notified by email immediately after the drawing.
- All contestants’ names and contact information will be used only for the purposes of this giveaway. I do not sell, barter or trade my email list. Ever. Ever. Ever.
That’s it! Oh, and don’t forget about the MIFG interview with author Mariane Pearl that was posted on Monday, as well as the review of In Search of Hope from yesterday. Would be interested in your thoughts, especially on the interview!
Good luck!

My mother is my hero because she was able to raise me as a single mother all while fighting debt and clinical depression. I think I turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself.

My mother was my hero. She spent the last few years battling cancer, fighting it the best way she knew how by living her life without letting her illness prevent her from doing the things she wanted and spending every moment loving her family.
it would have been my grandmother, she had strength perseverance and gumption, while hurdling over obstacles her entire life. She never felt sorry for herself, and was one of the most positive people i ever had the privilege of knowing.
My personal hero has always been my Grandpa, Mal Lyons, a WWII hero and excellent role model who did an amazing job providing for his family.

My heroine is Marie Curie. She was a brilliant woman who worked hard and never gave up on her dreams. In a time when women did not have the same opportunities as men, she was the first female to recieve the Nobel Prize.
