It’s the holidays, isn’t it? I mean, Christmas is only a couple of weeks away — actually, less than two weeks away — and I’ve yet to do most of the Christmas shopping (Mom, please please please tell me what you want for Christmas!), have yet to decorate a single inch of my house, and I’ve yet to really do any of the serious baking that’s been my holiday tradition for God knows how long.
How is everyone’s Christmas so far? I feel as if this holiday suddenly sprung up on me without warning, and all of a sudden it’s the middle of December and I’m caught unawares. I’ve felt so overwhelmed, and I’ve been sick twice the last two weeks, and now I’m sitting in my living room in my pyjamas, it’s 10:30 on a Sunday morning, and my eyes feel as if they’re about to sink way deep into their sockets until they’re practically inside-out.
Ever had that feeling? I mean, without the assistance of any alcohol? It’s a very strange sensation.

I am in the exact same place as you. Haven’t decorated anything & have only bought 2 presents. I will be sending New Years cards also…
Yep. To all of above. Have been concerned about you. It’s nearly 4pm in the east & I’m giving up the idea of baking for today. I’ve had my holiday cards for more than 2 months. They’re stamped. They have return address labels on them. Um, that’s it. So I guess I’ll address them (at least) while watching a Christmas DVD (A Christmas Tale with C. Deneuve) & then Oprah at the White House tonight. Cheers, m’dear.
I don’t have anything up yet either, the baking comes closer to Christmas in my house. Also email your address so I can send you a card.
I can relate. If I didn’t have my daughter, I wouldn’t have done anything. She (2 y.o) asked me for a Christmas tree. I was so moved by her request that I had to honor it. I think her pure joy in seeing the lights turned on has pushed me forward. I have had so much going on that (on my own) I probably would have waited to the last minute. Still haven’t addressed any cards yet. Surprised to know that I have less than 2 weeks to get them done. Like Susan (above), I will probably sit down with a nice movie and get them done.
Bonjour, aaonce! Yes, I actually consider myself quite lucky that I now have my Christmas photo cards. I used to order them from Vistaprint, but it’s MUCH faster getting them through the local Walgreens, and they do a pretty good job. It’s a little pricier than the usual cards, but at least they make it look somewhat more personal! As for the tree, well, that’s a weekend project, but I know it will get done. I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t get it up this year. I know, it’s a lot of pressure to put on myself, but I can’t imagine what Christmas would be like without a tree. B. has always said that he never thought much of Christmas until I came into his life, and now he enjoys it almost as much as I do simply because he sees how much pleasure it gives me. That’s how meaningful it is to me, and I know that if I didn’t do anything, it would leave an ache in my heart.
Hi, Bobbi! The baking is what signals Christmas for me, too. I usually start around Thanksgiving and push on through the New Year, but this year it’s been a bit sporadic. I’m gonna make up for it this weekend, though! And did you get my email address with my mailing address on it?
Bonjour, Susan! You’re so sweet to remember me! It’s been a wild and crazy couple of months, and I’ll write more about it in a couple of weeks once I’ve settled a few things, but now I’m focusing on wrapping things up (so to speak!), getting my house all Christmas-ed up, and sending out the cards. Did you send yours out yet? You have a couple more days!
Did you see Oprah at the White House? I bet DC is lovely around Christmas time. I was in the DC area during the 2000 elections and remember how cold and cloudy that day was. But even that early in the season, it already felt a bit like Christmas.
Hiya, Jenny! Well, you have a perfectly good excuse in your little boy. By the way, it was soooo good to see you the other day at the BlogHer party! I hope we’ll all get to do that spa day sometime soon, although it’s starting to look more like January.
